21The Number One Reason That People Fail On The Internet
Filed in: Open Blog, Uncategorized by Bo Tipton on 12-21-08Most of the things that you read on the Internet say that the number one reason that only 5% of the people on the Internet make money and the other 95% are still figuring out how is lack of focus. I think that is a simplistic approach to what the cause is.
I believe the number one reason that people fail on the Internet is because of what the Internet is best at. The number one reason people fail on the Internet is too much information.
You come on the Internet to see if you can make money. It may be out of desperation, a chance to pay a few bills, a better life style for your family or other reasons that you came to build a business. The first thing you do is sit down at your computer and start looking for information. You find a website or receive an email that offers a course or e-book that says it will teach new people how to build a business. You put in your first name and email address and it has begun.
An email arrives saying that over the next 4 days or 5 days or 8 weeks or how ever long you will learn how to build a business. The first thing that you see in the emails is an ad that is offering the next greatest business that you just push a button over night while you sleep you will make untold riches. It talks about the broke whoever that in 90 days made umpteen jillion dollars by applying the secret.
Or it talks about the program that the heavy hitters are working and they will build you business for you and you only have to cash the checks.
Out comes the credit card and the journey begins. As you travel across the Internet building your Business Empire that will be built in 90 days you find another e-book, or free report, or email course that will help you build your business. Well you can’t have too many e-books or free reports so the first name again and email is added and press submit and another e-book goes on the hard drive to gather cyber dust.
Before you know it you have so many items to promote you do not know which one is right. You try to promote them all and end up promoting none of them. That is okay though that one program said your upline was going to put so many people in your downline that you would make money while you sleep.
Each day you check your emails, read websites, follow links and at the end of the day you have made nothing and wonder why.
To build an Internet business you have to do several things.
One you have to get control of your time. I know you have heard it before but here it is again. The easiest way to get control of your time is to use a to do list. Write down the night before what you need to do the next time you set at your computer. Make sure you stick to that starting at the most important.

The next thing you need to do is to quit leaving your email client on. If you are using Outlook, Gmail in a web browser or what ever you are using turn them off during the day. Go through the emails once at the beginning of the day and then turn off your email client. If you feel like you have to at the end of your time working on your business check your emails real quickly. Anything that can be left for the next day do so. Also do not have your personal emails going to your business account and do not have your business account emails going to your personal account. Keep them separate.
Unsubscribe from every autoresponder that you are on. Quit getting all the email courses that you are not reading. If one is important then you can go back and subscribe again. Cut down on the traffic to your inbox.
Read the e-books you collected. Set a goal of at least opening and seeing what an e-book is about. If you think it helps keep it. If you think it does not or it is one big long sells pitch delete it. It is important because at some point in the future you will be recommending the e-books you kept to your downline.
Quit looking for that one great make you rich with no work program because it does not exist. No matter what you look at on the Internet run it through this filter. Ask yourself, “If this person who I do not know came to my house and set at my kitchen table and told me what I am reading would I believe him? If he handed me a brochure that says the same thing on this website and said nothing else would I buy from him?” If the answer is no then you know what to do.
If you were asked by someone who you admire but do not know very well, “What is it that you do on the Internet” how would you answer? If you can not answer in one sentence and be proud of what you say then you Do Not have a business.
Learn how to get traffic to a website. Not just clicks on the website but people who are there because they are interested in what the website is about. If you can do that you can build a business on the Internet. If you cannot do that you do not have a business on the Internet and need to learn how.

Learn how to use the tools to get traffic to a website. Do Traffic Exchanges work? Of course they do but learn how to use them. It is like going to the store and buying a shovel to paint a wall. A tool is only good if you know how to use it and what to use it for. Do safelist work? Of course they do. Same example. Does what ever you want to name work? Same Example. Learn how to use the tools right.
How to use traffic exchanges to build your business. Another free report but it will help you understand what it takes. Click Here
Find you someone on the Internet that you trust. Read their blog post, read their forum post and then when you feel comfortable with them email them. Ask them to help you. Normally it will be someone that is making more then you are but not one of people with big businesses. If they don’t answer keep looking. There are a lot of people making 3, 4 5 or six thousand dollars a month on the Internet that will help you learn how to do the same thing.
Once you find that person if they say go stand in the middle of the street and wave at traffic then go do it. It is called trusting someone.
You can build a business on the Internet but you have to build a foundation and control your time. Stay away from the trap of to much information and you will be surprised how quick your business grows. Focus on one thing with the help of someone you trust and learn how to market it well and then the rest will come easy.
Remember it is like deciding to build a house. Without ever putting a foundation down you try to build the walls, put on the roof, paint and landscape the yard all at the same time. IT does not work that way.
Learn how to build a foundation to your business and to take control of it. If you can half the battle is won. You can succeed.

You gave me a lot to think about. I have been a program jumper and have not found anything that would make me money after spending a ton on stuff. I am going to take you up on your offer and contact you.

Unfortunately I don’t think we can ever pin point one reason why people fail online. I prefer to pick an area of interest and learn as much as I can. If that means buying tons of products, then that’s not a problem at all.
But I definitely do not clutter my mind with anything that doesn’t revolve around my business. Don’t jump from one opportunity to the next. Stay focused, educate yourself, and take action.
